Put-Ups and Put-Downs
Put-Ups & Put-Downs
Teaching children about “put-ups and put-downs” is probably the one classroom experience that makes the biggest difference in improving the overall culture of a school. There has been a lot of research on the benefits of having a social & emotional curriculum in schools. It is a wonderful thing if your child is in a school that values social and emotional development. Yet, whether your child’s school has an SEL program or not, there are a lot of simple things parents can take from these curriculums and integrate into the culture of the family.
Introducing and sharing a common language allows for clear communication. Developing a common understanding of concepts like “put-ups and put-downs” opens up dialogue between all members of the family. The girls feel so strongly about the importance of understanding “put-ups and put-downs”, they decided to make a movie about them. Their hope is that you watch the video with your children and begin to explore and discuss the meaning within your family.
Enjoy!
