Our Alphabet Book & Movie
We have always loved alphabet books. Throughout the years we have collected many interesting varieties. One morning, I decided to gather our favorites and leave them out on our coffee table. When the girls discovered the ABC books they sat down, spread them all over the floor and started to explore. After awhile, I proposed the idea of creating our own alphabet book.
Excited by the notion of photographing their own ABC book, they decided to consult our collection to formulate ideas for each letter. Together the girls thought of each word and then set-up and photographed each item. This was a long process and I would recommend doing it over a long period of time. Anytime one of them would lose interest we would move on to something different.
Once all of the photographs were taken, I loaded them into my computer and typed the text on to each picture. Then I printed and mounted them into a bare book using double sided photo mounts and black photo corners. As we were mounting the pictures, we spread the photos on the floor and worked together to put them in alphabetical order. This activity was great for our youngest daughter, who is working on letter identification and her sound/symbol correspondence.
Now we have our very own ABC book to add to our collection!

It was great having a variety of ABC books handy to use as references for ideas. The girls consulted them often throughout the process.
