Pebble Alphabet Magnets
I am always looking for a good set of alphabet magnets - there are so many possibilities for word building games that can be played. When I saw that Martha Stewart used stamps on small pebbles in her Encyclopedia of Crafts, I was hit with a wave of alphabet inspiration.

We had to go on a special pebble collecting journey to find small (approximately 1 inch long), smooth, flat pebbles. We made sure to collect extras in case of mistakes and so that we could make extra letters, as well as a few flowers and hearts. Once we had collected 40 or so pebbles, we were ready to stamp away.
A great tip that was mentioned in the Encyclopedia of Crafts is to have some wet wipes handy so that you can wipe of any ink that gets on the corners of the stamps before you place the stamp on the rock. After stamping all of the rocks we used a hair dryer to dry and set the ink. Next, we cut small pieces of adhesive magnet strips and stuck then to the back of the rocks. The magnetic tape worked well for the smaller, lighter rocks. If you are using larger rocks it would be best to use stronger magnets and glue.
We are having a lot of fun spelling our favorite words and leaving surprise messages for each other!
