World Read Aloud Day
World Read Aloud Day
Last year we had the pleasure of participating in LitWorld’s World Read Aloud Day. This year it will be celebrated on March 9, 2011.
LitWorld dares to ask the question, “What if all the children in the world could read and write?”
The goal of World Read Aloud Day is to motivate children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another. The hope is to read aloud for a collective 774 million minutes in support of the 774 million people worldwide who cannot read or write and in turn lend all our voices to the Global Literacy Movement. Simply use the reading tally sheet and submit your minutes at the end of the day.
I love that World Read Aloud Day encourages me to spend extra time reading with my family while at the same time offers the opportunity for us to connect to a larger community of readers. It is a great time to share your favorite read aloud books and memories. I am also excited about having the girls follow the events around the world this year as they unfold on March 9th.
Visit litworld.org to participate in World Read Aloud Day and join them in their mission to change the world with the power of words.
